Project 2 – Unhealthiness and Special Retirement: epidemiological profile of health and disease in slaughterhouses

Meatpacking plants are among the largest generators of accidents and occupational diseases in the municipalities where they are located in Brazil. Despite the important achievement of NR 36 through the labor movement and other institutions, which established minimum standards for maintaining health and safety at work, there are still challenges in terms of improving working conditions in meatpacking plants. The objective of this project is to outline the epidemiological profile of health-disease and exposure to unhealthy conditions to which workers in meatpacking plants in the country are subjected, based on frequency indicators, using tools such as mapping to highlight the occurrence of illnesses.

Project 3 – Climate change and trade unions: tackling environmental degradation that can affect jobs and working environments
The world is undergoing major environmental changes at an accelerated pace, and this has affected many work environments and people's employment situations, affecting the health and lives of workers. Few unions have discussed this issue, and even these unions lack greater technical and political information about what governments and social movements are doing about it. Therefore, this project foresees some actions that aim to raise the critical awareness of union leaders and grassroots workers on environmental issues, and in particular, to objectively debate how to prevent catastrophes or even, when we experience catastrophic situations, so that we can have protocols that can mitigate the negative impact of these events. In short, this project proposes a set of actions that result in the inclusion of unions and workers in this discussion.

Actions Project 3:

Organize the 1st Latin American (Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay) and European (Spain and Italy) Trade Union Seminar on Climate Change and Labor - Date: November 5, 2024.
Prepare materials for debates, such as technical documents or educational material on the topic.
Organize a mini-course on the topic of environmental degradation for basic training of trade union leaders and base workers on this topic.
