The scientific journal Pegada published research on exposure to biological risk in meatpacking plants, listing many etiological agents (viruses and bacteria, for example) that can infect workers in this sector.
The pandemic has shown that we must pay greater attention to this issue, since COVID-19 has had a major impact on the entire world, with a fatality rate (deaths) of 2% among those infected. And we have other current challenges, such as bird flu, which must increase our efforts so that nations, authorities and those involved in this issue can improve strategies to stop the spread of this disease among humans. Studies show that the fatality rate (deaths) can reach 50% of those infected with H5N1. Fortunately, this situation is under control so far.
Based on the results, the authors organized the conclusion of the article through applied knowledge, that is, suggesting some practical measures such as improving the health surveillance system in the slaughter and meat processing industry, and changes in regulatory standards in Brazil, such as regulatory standard NR 36 (creation of an annex with the list of agents, following the example of NR 32) or NR 15 (change in annex 14 on unhealthiness), in addition to social security measures related to special retirement.
